How will you sparkle over the festive season?
Today’s blog features images from various high street stores and some online retailers. Whether you like a lot, or just a touch of sparkle there’s lots of choice available. Here are a few pointers to help you make your decision on which top to choose:
Consider what you will wear it with? Leather and PVC trousers, jeggings and skirts are one of this seasons popular trends. However they are not for everyone. I recommend that if you are wearing a top with lots of sparkle and glitz that you keep the bottom half matt. If your outfit is reflective top and bottom (as separates) it can almost appear as if they are competing for attention!
The second important point to consider is how often you may be able to wear it? Is it versatile? Can you create a number of different looks with it? Answering these questions should estimate the likely cost per wear. One would hope that the more expensive the item is, then hopefully the more you can wear it this bring the cost per wear down. Ideally one should have at least three other items in the wardrobe to wear any new purchase with.
Thirdly, What look do you want to achieve? Possibly a slimmer, taller silhouette, overall balance or highlight a particular area. The higher the neckline the larger the bust will appear. The larger the sequins the bulkier the top will appear. The more structure in the top the more it will emphasis the body shape. If you want to emphasis your bum then don’t cover it with a long top. If you want to show off great shoulders, a halter neck or one shoulder top is ideal. If you have an obvious waist then don’t hide it.
Lastly, consider the laundering of the garment. Many sequin tops are difficult to launder. Some require dry cleaning- this should be factored into your cost per wear. If machine washing, turn the garment inside out and use a lace/net laundry bag specifically for delicates, as this will protect your sequins from getting caught in other items. Some items are best hand washed.
As party season is well on its way, may you sparkle with joy. (cover picture, IVRose.com)
